WATCH: Kid President meets President Obama

(Yahoo!) - As Kid President, the adorable "self-appointed voice of a generation," 9-year-old Robby Novak has inspired adults and kids across the country with his enthusiastic YouTube addresses to the nation. But although he's chatted with President Barack Obama via his string-and-can Kid Telephone, he's never met the real-life President of the United States—until now.

The two leaders got together at the White House recently to discuss how adults and kids can work together to make the world a better place. But first, Kid President needed to make himself comfortable in the Oval Office.

“I think you should try to sit behind the desk so you look a little more efficient,” Obama told Novak, who happily climbed into the chair at the historic Resolute desk and picked up the phone. Looking amused and maybe a little worried, Obama warned him to put it down. "Let’s make sure not to cause an international incident," he told the pint-size president.

The two chatted about their jobs ("I know you [have so many] demands on your time, trying to balance being President and being in third grade," Obama deadpans. "That's a lot of stuff. But you seem to be handling it very well") and took a closer look at some of the artifacts in the room before getting down to business.

"How can kids and grown-ups work together to change the world?" Novak asked Obama, looking at him with a serious expression on his face.

"The most important thing we can all do is to treat each other with kindness and respect," the real-life President replied. "So, kids, they can learn right away in school and on the playground to be nice to each other. And if you see a kid being picked on, make sure you stand up for him. And you treat everybody fairly, no matter what they look like and where they're from."

"If you start learning to do that as a kid, and everybody is respectful of each other and nice to each other then, when they grow up they'll be doing the same thing and we'll have a lot fewer problems," Obama continued.

The meeting wrapped up with a sweet request, from a big fan to a public figure. "Even though we're presidents, can we still hug?" President Obama asked Kid President, who leaned in to give him one.

"Keep on doing the great work that you're doing, and I'll try to do my best," President Obama said. "And between the two of us maybe we can kind of get things going in a good direction."
