BARTOW, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Kiera Wilmot says her bottle of chemicals was part of a science fair project at Bartow High School last month. Students were curious what would happen. So was she.
So, the 16-year-old demonstrated her experiment on campus, outside the classroom, which caused a minor explosion. No one was hurt.
But she got into big trouble.
Criminal charges were filed, and though those charges have been dismissed, she still faces explusion. Kiera's attorney says negotiations are ongoing to end the expulsion process and announces that she and her twin sister have received a scholarship to the United States Advanced Space Academy in Huntsville, Alabama.
"I want people to know they can't stop me and my love of science," says Kiera.
