TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Hillsborough County Fire Rescue units responded around 12 noon to an accident involving eight cars and a semi truck on I-75 southbound just north of Hwy 60.
Upon arrival, HCFR crews confirmed that there were multiple cars involved in this accident and multiple patients. The first unit on scene requested additional resources due to the size of this accident.
One of the cars involved had an adult male patient that was trapped inside his vehicle. The vehicle was wedged between the semi truck and the concrete guard rail.
The Heavy Rescue unit was called as well as Stepps Towing company to extricate this patient. It took crews about one hour to extricate this patient due to the severity of the accident. The patient was airlifted to a trauma center.
There were a total of seven patients that HCFR treated and transported. Three were in critical condition. Florida Highway Patrol was on scene and will be handling the investigation.
They were no fatalities at this accident. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded 21 units and about 40 personnel to this accident.
