Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Two Tampa Police officers were attempting to arrest the suspect on drug charges when he violently resisted.
One of officers deployed her taser which temporarily slowed him down. The suspect managed to pull the wires out and the taser became ineffective. The suspect then tried to grab the device.
The officers were able to wrestle Young to the ground until back up arrived.
Young was in possession of a handgun, 98 grams of psilocybin (mushrooms), 29 grams of marijuana, .9 grams of methamphetamine, .3 grams of cocaine and various other narcotics.
Two Tampa Police officers were treated at St. Joseph's Hospital for cuts suffered during the incident.
A third officer transported the suspect to jail. While en route, Young complained of feeling ill and feeling overheated. In an act of kindness, the officer partially rolled down the driver side passenger window of his police car.
Young managed to slip his left hand out of the handcuffs. When the officer stopped his vehicle at the central booking gate, Young reached through the open window and opened the rear door.
Young then fled westbound on foot. Additional units responded to the area and a perimeter was established. A K9 officer began to track the defendant who was then located and bit him. Young was transported to Tampa General Hospital to be medically cleared.
