Riverview, Fla.-(970 WFLA)-A flatbed tow truck, carrying a bulldozer, went out of control on southbound Interstate 75 and crashed over the Alafia River bridge.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the truck and bulldozer landed 45 feet below in the marsh along the north shoreline of the river.
The driver, identified as 29 year-old Jeffrey Scott Cook of St. Augustine, was rescued by an off-duty Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy with assistance from an off-duty Hillsborough County Reserve Firefighter. Cook is listed in serious condition at Tampa General Hospital.
The tractor trailer rig is operated by M.D. Towing of Jacksonville.
