ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) - It's been seven months since Sweetbay closed a couple dozen stores in the Bay Area, including one in south St. Pete's Midtown area.
Now, the city has announced a replacement.
The Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market is expected to open its doors at the Tangerine Plaza on 22nd Street South by the end of the year or early next.
The closure of the Sweetbay in February left a void at the Tangerine Plaza that was supposed to be the catalyst for economic renewal in the Midtown area.
Wal-Mart says it will set up a hiring center at the shopping plaza and intends to hire 100 people.
