Wildfires Keep Crews Busy

Tampa Bay, Fla.-(970 WFLA)-It's been dry and those conditions have been causing wildfires to pop up in the area.  Two wildfires had some residents on edge and kept firefighters busy.

A ten-acre wildfire Near Osprey Ridge in Lithia got mighty close to Bevis Elementary School. The school was empty as students are on Easter break.  But, the fire did cause evacuations at the Fishhawk Early Learning Center.  There were no injuries.

Hillsborough Fire-Rescue is investigating the possibility that teens playing with fireworks may have ignited the dry brush in that fire.

Another big brush fire threatened homes in the Weeki Wachee area, near U.S. 19. That fire got to within 50 feet of a group of eight houses, but firefighters were able to stop the advance of the fire.

The Weeki Wachee fire came out of a controlled burn near the Glen Lakes Golf Course.

Firefighters expect to be busy dealing with more wildfires until we hit the rainy season in another month.
